How to Prepare for Your Health Screening Medical
Once you have confirmed your medical, you will receive a confirmation letter by post or by e-mail confirming the details of your appointment, a questionnaire which you will be need to complete and bring with you on the day of your medical and directions to find us.
In addition please note the following:
Fasting
You will need to fast for 12-14 hours before your medical. The reason for this is that certain test values may change after you eat such as blood sugar. It is important to drink water while fasting but no juice, tea or coffee and avoid smoking, chewing gum or exercising all of which may alter the test results. If you have conditions such as diabetes or other conditions which may be affected by fasting, please call us on 01-2945444 in advance for further information
Medication
If you are on medication, please continue taking it but be sure to bring the name of it with you as sometimes it can affect the blood results
FOB Kit (Faecal Occult Blood test)
If you are over 50, an FOB kit will be sent to you in the post prior to your medical. The FOB test is used to check for blood in the stool which coulf potential be a sign of collorectal abnormalities. Detailed instructions will be included as to how to use. If your booking is confirmed less than 5 days before your medical, you will receive a kit on the day of the medical which will need to be returned at a later date.
Glasses or corrective lenses
If you wear either, please remember to bring them with you on the day of your appointment.
Body lotion
Please refrain from applying body lotion on the morning of your appointment
Questionnaire
Please complete your medical questionnaire in advance of your medical. It is very important to do this as it will start preparing you for the medical and it will also ensure that your medical starts on time.
What to wear
Please wear whatever you are comfortable wearing.
